What is GIN?
The Global Issues Network movement was started by a group of international school teachers and students in 2003, inspired by the book High Noon: 20 Global Issues, 20 Years to Solve Them by Jean-Francois Rischard. In the book, Rischard argues that the only way to solve these issues is by creating grassroots networks (like schools) that work together to effect change. Since this grassroots beginning, the Global Issues Network has grown rapidly to include students from more than 200 schools across Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East and The Americas.
The Global Issues Network (GIN) empowers young people to collaborate locally, regionally and globally to create solutions for global issues. Each year, thousands of students worldwide engage in GIN-related activities. Each year regional GIN conferences are held around the world, bringing together teachers and students to share, inspire and network with each other. Each conference also strives to do the following.
GIN Saigon
During the 2010 EARCOS GIN conference in Manila, Philippines, students and teachers from the International School of Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC) and Saigon South International School (SSIS) put together a plan to hold a local Saigon GIN conference in Ho Chi Minh City. The first of these conferences was hosted by ISHCMC and was attended by 400+ students from 11 different schools.
With a growing number of both local and international schools forming GIN clubs, the momentum is building and the network is growing. The hope is that as more schools become involved each year, students will return to their respective schools with the knowledge, resources, inspiration and support to take action in their communities.
